Modal Paths

Abstract

In On sense II, Greimas mostly undertakes the study of modalities. Many of the ideas sketched there are still waiting to be developed and others, like the sintagmatic organization of wanting, owing, being able and knowing (to do) in the function of modes of semiotic existence require modification in order to make them more operative. In this paper we propose to increase the number of modalities, give them a mode of variable existence and review the relation of presupposition between these modes of existence.
