Argentine Spanish in Contact with Indigenous Languages: Ethnopragmatic Strategies

Abstract

In this work we try to show that the syntactic strategies are found to be pragmatically motivated. In order to do this, we analyze the variation between the presence and absence of atonic thirdperson pronouns in the role of the accusative observed in oral legends produced by speakers of Spanish in Argentina in contact with indigenous languages. We limit ourselves within the theoretical and methodological principles of ethnopragmatics and we appeal to the concept of iconicity in search of an explanation that gives an account of the registered variation.
